Our amazing Daughter

The parents were given a homework assignment this year. We were asked to write about our child their dreams, goals, strengths, and weaknesses. As I read over it I realized what a blessing Elizabeth is to us. I hope I was able to convey that to her teachers as well as how they might be best able to assist her in her pursuit of her best self. I also was struck by how most parents do not tell everyone how proud of their children they are. Unfortunately, we so easily get caught up in complaining that sometimes we forget about the good. Beth just beamed when I read it to her! So I thought that I would share with our family and friends how proud we are and how great our daughter is!
Our homework..................

Our Daughter Elizabeth Edge

Elizabeth is amazing. These last couples of years have been a struggle in our home but she has managed to become quite a young woman. She is a wonderful example to her little sister. She takes the time to play with her and teach her new words. She has always wanted to care for her and loves to spend time with her, allowing me to get things done around the house. So in the process of being a great big sister she is a huge help to me as well. She is a very loving sister to her older brother. When her brother decided to join the Army, she became his biggest supporter, putting up hand made signs to encourage him. Once we got his address at basic she wrote him daily, and always sent him a little treasure, like a poem she wrote or a picture.

She wants to always be found offering comfort and care to those around her. Beth is usually the first person in our house to offer assistance to anyone who needs it. She has helped strangers at the grocery store with their groceries, and every time we see a stray animal she wants to bring it home and care for it. She offers comfort to those she sees needs a little kindness. She knows who she is, a Daughter of our Heavenly Father, and as such is entitled to all his blessings.

She is an avid reader. During her entire school career she has tested well above her grade level in reading, I attribute this to her desire to read and reading as much as possible. She loves music and listens to it as much as she can. Her Father also loves music and they share an I Pod and talk about new songs and artists together. We always encourage her to find what she is interested in and pursue it. A good example of that is her desire to be an architect. Once she discovered her talent and desire to design homes and decorate them she began to create her own designs and research different types of architecture. She has been working on designs and house plans for the last two years. She is very creative and loves to make anything crafty, she has asked me to teach her to knit. She likes to cook and is learning to bake; she recently made a chocolate cake with frosting for her Father, all from scratch.

Middle school has been a concern for Beth. She struggled last year with her teacher. We all tried to look at the situation as a life lesson; you will sometimes work, or have to be around people you may not care for or that don’t care for you, but you have to get your work done, and you can not just quit. That applies to school or a work environment. In the end Beth did well and learned a valuable lesson.

Beth is a natural leader, but that also means she can be bossy. She enjoys helping students that are struggling in areas that she excels. She also enjoys kudos for her accomplishments, and will flourish in an encouraging environment. At times she can be a worrier, sometimes she worries about things so much she scares herself, and does not take a chance on something she may enjoy. Beth can do anything she sets her mind on, with our support and the support of her teachers she will accomplish all her goals and do so with skill and intelligence. Elizabeth is a very smart, beautiful and caring young lady and quite a blessing in our home.
